Viva 7's Under 13's Tumut Gala Day

8 Aug 2017 by Nyree Dunn

The Viva 7's U13's certainly saved their best games until the final gala day for the year. Coming up against some tough opposition in Albury and Tumut, the girls put in a lot of effort only going down 5-0 in their games. This was a huge improvement on the start of the season and having no subs in either game showed their tenacity.
Chelsea returned to Vivas after a broken foot pre-season to play her first games of the comp. She slotted into the team as if she'd always been there and worked hard in attack and defense. Fantastic cover defence was shown by our pocket rocket Caitlyn who saved a number of possible tries with her speed. Sarah, Georgie and Asha showed commitment by chasing down the opposition and not giving up. Great attacking play was shown by Hayley and Tahlia taking the ball forward at pace. Indie came into the second game to help out after we lost Sarah to a leg injury at the end of game 1. She showed no fear in either attack or defence against girls double her age.
All the girls worked hard defending their line and on countless occasions pressured the opposition into errors and turned over the ball.
A special mention to Hayley and Tahlia who ably represented the Phantoms in an inaugural Riverina v South West Slopes Viva 7's game. Joining forces with Albury, Hay, Griffith and Wagga the girls played their hearts out eventually going down by 2 to the combined force of Young, Tumut, and West Wyalong.

Well done to all the Phantoms girls on an excellent season of Viva 7's. The improvement shown over the year is a credit to you all. Unfortunately injury had plagued us during the year and whilst we gained Chelsea and we had lost both Grace and Alayna mid way through.
I look forward to seeing the continued improvement next year and hopefully you can all encourage some more girls to try out Viva 7's.
